Q1 ) of all the principles of Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning we looked at in this module, which seem most intuitive to you? Which ones surprised you?

I Think the Extraneous Cognitive Load Principle seems most intuitive to me because:

The principle of Redundancy suggests that people learn better from graphics and narration or graphics and text than they do from graphics, narration and text, which seems intuitive.

The principle of coherence tells us that irrelevant information should be minimized in multimedia presentation, This is also very intuitive as distractions could lead to hinder learning.

The principle of Signaling, recommends to use heading and subheadings to organize material and highlight key information, which is highly intuitive.

The principle of Contiguity, helps us improve the quality of our graphics by making sure on-screen text and narration aligns with the graphics, seems generally intuitive.

The Principle which surprised me the most is the principle of Pretraining (Intrinsic Cognitive Load) because the principle of pretraining suggests that learning is effective when “overview is first and details are after”. Spending time on the introductory before the main details seems counterintuitive for me that’s why i was surprised.

Q2) Who did you imagine as the audience for this screencast? How did that impact your design choices?

While doing screen cast, i had imagined three types of audience in my mind.

  1. People who spent lots of time on searching on youtube ( because they don’t use filters).
  2. Those who do not know how to upload the video on youtube or are unaware of some features while uploading the video on youtube.
  3. EDCI classmates and professor who will be watching the screencast.

Every type of audience impacted my design choice, i started my screen cast by exploring basic features on youtube then i had to use examples to explain some features ( search filters and video uploading), i had to speak very properly so people can understand me, i had to be aware of all the things showing on my screen, so that i don’t make myself or anyone else feel bad.

Q3) Provide an example of a multimedia learning principle that you have intuitively followed in the past, and an example of a multimedia learning principle that you have not followed in the past. What will you do differently now?

As i am from computer science background so i have used the principle of segmenting while doing my coding assignments. As most of the times i have to write very long programming assignments so breaking the code into smaller code running /compiling them one by one is very helpful.

I have not followed the principle of modality, i always use to label the diagram and then narrate or write about the diagram. From now on, i will just show the picture/diagram and explain the picture/diagram without writing any labels, so that people can understand and learn more.
