In this module, i explored ChatGPT, a Generative AI tool that is used to brainstorm ideas, develop a first draft, check grammar and spellings, write and debug code, create content in multiple language, generate case studies and answer questions. As I am a computer science student I have used ChatGPT 3.5 few time to check and debug code, and also to generate some ideas.
ChatGPT: Short Video Ideas
For Assignment 2: Video for a learning purpose, I had to make a short video on any topic, but I was very confused which topic should I choose. So, I asked ChatGPT for “any good topic for video purpose under 4 minutes”. It suggested me many ideas and luckily one of the idea which it suggested matched with the idea I was thinking on planning to make my video on. Which helped me to choose the topic for my Assignment 2.

ChatGPT: Zip Files using tar in UVic Server
For CSC-361 course Assignment 2, The submission criteria was to submit the zip files using tar command. Basically, I had 3 files( two coding files, one Readme file) then I had to log in to UVic computer science server and upload my files there then zip it using tar command and then download the zip folder from the server and submit it through bright space. The problem was that I vaguely remember how to use the tar command, and even in the assignment 2 outline/pdf only the command was given not the steps/instructions on how to use that command. So, I asked ChatGPT “can you show me an example of how to zip files using the %tar -czvf command”. As soon as I saw the example on ChatGPT, I remembered how to use that command.

Reflection Questions:
I would like to add that when ChatGPT was introduced I verify it with my assignments solutions and quizzes solution and most of the time the answer was wrong, therefore I don’t find ChatGPT much effective tool especially if you are using ChatGPT for a learning purpose. I only use ChatGPT to get some ideas or to verify something which I have full knowledge about. Example: If I found that my answer and ChatGPT answer did not match then I always choose my answer because even if my answer is wrong I will have opportunity to learn and improve based on the feedback from professor’s. Which would not have happened if I use ChatGPT answer and get it right.
Q) Have you used AI applications before? If you have, what have you used them for? What apps have you come across that are not in the Explore section that you’ve found useful?
I have used ChatGPT a lot of time since it was released in 2022, I have used ChatGPT for my computer science courses, theory courses( english or electives), but mostly I have used ChatGPT only to confirm my knowledge or to get some ideas about some topics. I don’t use much AI applications except few which have already been shown in Module 5. AI tool Grammarly which is similar as Quillbot is also very useful, I did use Grammarly only one or two times but I don’t use it anymore because I like to write paragraphs with my own creativity and thinking.
Q) What ethical concerns do you have (or not have) about the use of some of these tools?
I feel like whenever i have used ChatGPT, There is always a risk of plagiarizing yourself with someone else work. I only used ChatGPT few times and only for confirming my ideas, but I have heard that some people nowadays only rely on AI tools to complete their assignment and homework which means they are violating Academic Integrity and Academic dishonesty. There are plagiarism software which can detect the use of ChatGPT in assignment but i think they are not much effective, because if you ask ChatGPT one question again and again, then it will give you many different answer and if a student who is using ChatGPT rewrite the answer in their own words then it is very difficult for the software to identify the plagiarized work. Some of the time the content which ChatGPT provide is not accurate so if you used that in your work/assignments, you won’t understand the answer/content and you will be plagiarized.
