I used iMovie for editing/creating my video.

I made a video on how to make a Maggie Noodles. I have eaten Maggie Noodles since childhood, i also eat them in Canada. They are very cheap and very easy to cook.

Before making the video, i made the script/story board, which helped me made the video more effectively. I tried to stick myself to the script but i was improvising as well.

Assignment 2: Video for learning purpose:

[The introduction part]

Hello everyone, My name is jaswant and today I will be teaching you how to make noodles. So I am from India and I have mostly eaten the Maggie noodles, On the packet it says 2 minutes noodles but to be honest they usually take 5 to 6 minutes to make. And I mean you can make it in 2 minutes but it does not taste good in 2 minutes( taste raw). So you have cook a little bit extra to make it delicious.

[Many ways to make Maggie]

Jaswant: I just want to tell you that there are many people who make Maggie Noodle in many ways:

  1. Add hot-water to Maggie and then the masala.
  2. Add masala to hot water and then add Maggie’s.
  3. Add different spices to Maggie, and then add hot-water.
  4. Add vegetables or Egg or Meat to Maggie as per your preference to make it taste good.

[Why Maggie]

Jaswant: Its very easy and fast to make, you can make it any time. Its not heavy food its light food. Its not expensive and you can save time and money by making Maggie instead of ordering food online.

[Things needed for Maggie]

Jaswant: Fry pan, water, Maggie and butter / anything you want.

[ How to make Maggie]

Jaswant: Open the packet, put it in bowl or plate. Follow the instruction which is written on the side of the Maggie packet.

Instruction are:

1. Break the Noodle cake into Four Parts.

2. Add Noodles and seasoning to 210ml of boiling water.

3. Cook for 2 minutes in an open pan, stir occasionally. Do not drain the remaining water.

[How i like Maggie]

Jaswant: Do not break the Maggie cake, because I like long noodles. Breaking the cake will make noodles short.

Wait for around 5 minutes, meanwhile you can set up plate or bowl , spoons or fork.

Just pour the cooked Maggie on to your plate and enjoy eating delicious Maggie.

Thank you.

Q1) What is the learning purpose of your video?

The learning purpose behind my video is that the people who does not know how to cook Maggie noodles can learn by watching my video. Also, most of the people are very lazy when it comes to cooking, they can easily order food online but its very hard for them to cook. In my video, i have shown and explained that making Maggie Noodle is very easy and fast, People can save time and money by cooking Maggie Noodles at home or even at Office. Basically, my video will help you learn cooking skills, save time ( Time-Management), and money.

Q2) Which of the principles we’ve covered this term (e.g., Mayer/Universal Design for Learning/Cognitive Load Theory) did you incorporate into your design and why?

Mayor’s Segmenting Principle: The principle which suggests that breaking breaking the huge problem to small problem will enhance learning. I used mayor’s segmenting principle by keeping the video less than 5 minutes. Further, while making the video i did not made the video in one attempt, i break the video into sub topics and was able to make video accordingly.

Mayor’s Personalization Principle: I used a very friendly and conversational tone to keep my audience engaged. I used my own voice and tried to be respectful, friendly and funny as much as possible because i think audience will show more understanding towards me, they will be able to engage and learn more.

Mayor’s Signalling Principle: The principle which says we should highlight key points in our video, add visual elements. I added a text “Maggie Noodles” in between my video so that if there is anyone who could not understand my accent would know what the topic is about. Further, at the end of the video i added the image of the cooked Maggie Noodles which will be helpful for the viewers to understand how the final product( which in my video is Maggie) looks like.

Q3) What was challenging about capturing your own video?

There were lots of challenged while making the video, i am camera shy– doesn’t like to be infront of the camera a lot. Therefore, it was very hard for me to put myself infront of the camera. Second was the camera place– i was using my own phone to record the video, as i was in my kitchen the only place i could find for the camera is to place my phone on the top of the gas stove, supported by the wall. Now there is a little space between the gas and the wall, i was scared if my phone falls in that space then it would create a lot of problem. Safety, i was doing a cooking video so i have to prioritize my safety, because i could easily get burn due to lack of focus from the gas. so every time i starts recording i am always looking at the gas which also effected my video as i was not able to look at the camera all the time while explaining my video.

Q4) What did you find easiest?

The only thing i find easiest while making the video is that i knew how to make Maggie Noodles. I have cooked Maggie a lot, so while putting myself infront of camera, There was a confidence in me that i have done this before( cooking Maggie), i can do it now.

Q5) How would you approach capturing video differently next time?

I would ask help from my friend who can do recording of me, In that way, i won’t have to be worry about did i start the recording button, whether my phone will fall on the space between wall and gas. whether the video has my body in it or is the angle is bad.
